The Monolith Monsters (1957)

Here is another entry from the Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection that had spawned The Incredible Shrinking Man. This one is a more in the ‘It Came From Space’ genre. What sets this one apart, and also really made it most enjoyable for me, is that the monsters aren’t humanoid beings trying to take over the planet but columns of rocks that just happen to grow to enormous sizes when they encounter water. I loved the setting of a small California desert town with the giant monoliths menacing nearby and with a relatively short runtime, it was worth the watch.
